Vehicle restoration: 1976 Land Rover Series 3 SWB 2.25 petrol Hard Top

We bought this vehicle as it was very original and had only covered 27,000 miles from new with only 2 owners. It had been stored for a number of years but started instantly with a new battery and fresh fuel. The engine and gearbox were in superb condition and the chassis had only had 1 or 2 areas of repair the rest was found to be solid, therefore we cleaned and painted the chassis to preserve it. It was restored keeping as close as possible to factory specification.

Key work carried out:

	Vehicle stripped to chassis to enable full inspection for restoration.
	Chassis cleaned, checked and found to only need very minor repairs, new sections welded in then entire chassis given rust proof paint treatment.
	Bulkhead required new footwells which were welded in, remainder was sound.
	Engine checked for condition and found to be excellent. Therefore was fully serviced and new carburettor fitted.
	Gearbox checked for condition and found to be excellent, new clutch fitted.
	Axles checked for condition, only item requiring attention was chrome swivel balls. So new balls fitted and seals/bearings.
	Suspension, leaf springs tired and corroded so new leaf springs and shock absorbers all round.
	Braking system entirely renewed due to degradation from lack of use and age.
	Fuel system renewed with new tanks and pipes.
	Cooling system renewed with new radiator and water pumps and hoses.
	Vehicle mostly rewired with new light units and switches.
	Bodywork required new front and rear wings, new door bottoms and door tops. Then re-sprayed inside and out in original grey.
	Existing wheels refurbished and fitted with new tyres.
	Interior fitted with new de-lux vinyl seats, and new steering wheel.
