Vehicle Restoration: 1959 Land Rover Series 2 SWB

This Series 2 was in daily use until a bad MOT failure due to chassis corrosion meant it needed full restoration. Our customer wanted an early Series 2 SWB and this was an ideal donor vehicle from our stock and restored to customers requirements with the general theme of a classic looking Land Rover restored for longevity so in addition to the new galvanised chassis we also fitted galvanised bulkhead, galvanised front radiator panel, all body capping re-galvanised including windscreen frame and also many other items such as the pedal boxes, engine mounts and more. In addition to this stainless steel fixings were used wherever possible and stainless steel exhaust system

 Before work started, this had been repainted in cream and was in need of restoration

Stripping Land Rover down to component parts

The backbone of the restoration and nice new galvanised chassis

New leaf springs and bump stops fitted

Powder coated axles casings fitted to the leaf springs

Axles rebuilt with reconditioned differentials and new chrome swivels, also swivel housing powder coated prior to fitting

Engine block and gearbox fitted

Engine built up with cylinder head fitted and main ancillaries

Stainless steel exhaust fitted

Galvanised bulkhead sprayed before fitting

Bulkhead items fitted on including these galvanised pedal boxes for longevity

Pedals powder coated before fitting

Rear tub and door bottoms fitted, note cappings removed before spraying and re-galvanised before fitting

Freshly galvanised cappings fitted in place

Galvanised front panel sprayed before fitting

Electrical items such as lights being fitted and wired up to new wiring loom

Really starting to take shape new with more bodywork fitted

Original steering wheel restored to former glory

Floor panels and seat base fitted along with new door rubbers

Wheels and tyres fitted and restoration nearly completed

Underside of finished vehicle, seems a shame to take it out and get it dirty!
